Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign that encourages people and organizations everywhere to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks. This year it is May 1. Given that in-person gatherings are limited or on-hold in many places, this year’s Prep Day is focused on what residents can do on and around their home to help protect against the threat of wildfires.
Information about this event is here: https://www.nfpa.org/wildfirepreparednessday. State Farm again has partnered with the NFPA to create 150 grants worth $500 each to help neighborhoods with projects. In the past, several neighborhoods in South Metro Fire Rescue’s jurisdiction have won these grants. The application is here: https://webportalapp.com/appform/login/wildfireprepday2021
If you do apply for a grant and would like a letter of support from SMFR, please ask me via this email address. If your neighborhood hosts a function on May 1, please send me the details as soon as you can so I can get it on my calendar. If the COVID numbers continue dropping in our region, I may be able to invite the local engine crew for a drive-by greeting, too.
If you or your residents have other questions about wildfire preparedness or you/they would like to schedule a FREE 45-minute home wildfire safety assessment, please email me.
Thank you for your time!
