E-Bikes

Thinking of buying an E-bike or E-moto? Please review the following to understand the rules and laws regarding these bikes. Citations and impounding can occur if not followed.

Class 1 & 2 E-Bikes-Max 20 MPH 

• Class 1: Pedal-assist
• Class 2: Pedal-assist + throttle
Where you can ride: Roads, sidewalks, paths, and trails.
Helmet: Not required, but highly recommended.

Class 3 E-Bikes -Max 29 MPH- Pedal Assist Only 

• Riders must be 16+ (helmets required for anyone under 18).
• Where you can ride: Roads only — NOT permitted on sidewalks, paths, or trails, including the Highlands Ranch Metro District parks and open spaces.

Low-Power Scooters 

• Require a valid driver’s license, registration, and insurance.
• Road use only — not permitted on sidewalks, paths, or trails, including the Highlands Ranch Metro District parks and open spaces.
 

Electric Motorcycles / E-Motos 

• Require a motorcycle endorsement, registration, and insurance.
• Off-road models are not street legal and can only be ridden in OHV areas or on private property. Misuse can lead to impound fees and mandatory court appearances.

 Helmets are strongly recommended for all riders. Please follow posted signage, yield to pedestrians, and ride responsibly.
